Revelation 13:15-18 And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed. And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. Here is wisdom. Let him that hath understanding count the number of the beast: for it is the number of a man; and his number is Six hundred threescore and six  (666).

There are several possibilities for the Beast of Revelation.

First possibility is tied to the computer:

Several points of note:

1. 6 IS THE NUMBER OF MAN WITH MAN BEING CREATED ON THE 6TH DAY OF CREATION.
2. The United States of America is the principal nation of commerce in the world and the center is Wall Street in New York City.
3. Although the book of Revelation is written in Greek, we are suggesting that the English language be considered in the following possibility. English is not only the principle language of the United State, but is the primary language of business throughout the world.
4. IBM introduced the product bar code in the United States originally for grocery products, but bar coding has expanded to other formats and includes all saleable products of commerce throughout the nations of the world.
5. The word 'count' in Greek is psephizo {psay-fid'-zo} simply meaning: to count with pebbles, to compute, calculate, reckon. The computer counts in binary, simply adding the number of zeros and ones affixed to numbers, letters and signs, etc.
6. Man will not be able to buy or sell anything without the power of the beast to control and maintain the cashless economy.

To establish the mathematical possibilities in English, multiply the number position of each letter in the English alphabet by 6 such as a=1x6=6   b=2x6=12  c=3x6=18 etc. substituting the multiplied number for the letter or simply total the numeric position of the alphabet and multiplying the sum total by 6.

Perhaps when the fiat paper currency is astronomically inflated, then computer digitized fiat currency will be issued to those who will take the mark of the beast.  The word beast in the bible scriptures is associated with powerful controlling entities in prophetic time.

The computer maybe associated with the bestial power in the book of Revelation, where it is not possible to buy or sell without the image of its name. 
The man who will be associated with the religious, financial power of the computer idol or the image of the beast is not known at this present time.

February 22, 2017: Since this was originally written more than a decade ago, this possibility in the economy of the world is now virtual reality.  Block chain and crypto-currency is now becoming the reality that will control the environment of the world's new way of conducting business.

A third possibility is a combination of the first two, with a piercing, computerized Islamic mark of the beast.
